The Story of Our Fridge + Found Friday Week 12

The story of our first fridge is one of new favorite house stories…

When we first bought the house, the original fridge was working great, but after a few work days, an awful smell began to reek from it. (We’re guessing it was a freon leak?)

The other night we ran into Lowes to get a vent for our new dryer, so I decided to run through the fridge aisles to see what was out there and get a feel for prices. Since Elijah & I were planning on getting our fridge from an auction, I was simply taking a look for fun.

When Elijah found what he was looking for, he came and found me still lingering in the refrigerator aisles.

I found a full-priced one that I double-loved. I had just seen one like it the week before at a house that Elijah installed some custom pantry shelving at. It was very industrial & I loved the look of the long handles. Elijah agreed-he loved it, but we’d never buy it at full price.

I remembered that I had come across a clearance section and had seen one fridge over there. I figured we should at least give it another glance. As soon as we got over there Elijah goes, “Daisy. This is the same fridge as the one you just showed me.” “Your kidding,” I replied. What are the odds that the ONE fridge on clearance would be the ONE full-priced fridge that I had just fallen in love with? The handles weren’t installed yet, so I didn’t even recognize it! It was marked down for $1,200 to $900.

Elijah went over to the Lowe’s lady working in the area and asked if the fridge had any issues. We learned that their clearance section consists of unboxed, returned items. She said they are marked down anywhere from 50-75%, but the products are still good-as-new.

Elijah pointed out that the fridge wasn’t 50% off- to which she delayed about 3 seconds, nodded her head, and replied…”yeah, I can do that.” *Cue a squeal and happy dance.* It just went from $1,200 to $900 to $600 in a matter of a minute! It was a no brainer on our part. When you find a deal like that, you gotta jump on it! We looked at the clock and realized it was 7 o’clock- we had an hour till they closed. We told the lady that we needed to run back to the house to measure first!

We darted back to the car like excited kids, drove to the house, measured the area, and drove back to Lowes!

When we got back, we saw where she marked it down to $600 for us! Since it was near closing, she had already left, so Kobe was the new guy working the appliance section. As always, Elijah immediately made friends and started talking to him about the fridge. We noticed that there was a small dent at the bottom of the left door, so Elijah mentioned it to Kobe to see if he was able to do anything about it.

Kobe didn’t say anything, opened his drawer, pulled out his marker & scratched the price out and wrote $500.

So, that night, we purchased our first fridge for $500.

We feel totally blessed. We also had no idea how excited we could get over appliances. Now we are on the hunt for an oven!

Found Friday Week 12

We’ve now officially had a dozen Found Fridays! I’m still thrifting on a consistent basis for the house and keep coming across treasures to share with y’all! You can call me crazy, because I actually felt sadness when I realized there are only a few “yard sale weekends” left until the cold weather takes over…noooo! It’s okay. There’s always Goodwill. 🙂

This week’s finds:

As always, this week’s Found Friday collection is available in the Fernway Home Etsy shop! We lovingly refer to it as “Found items for an inspired home.”

If you’re local to Murfreesboro, use coupon code LOCAL for porch pickup. If you’re not local, shipping is available.

Thanks for stopping by the blog and reading today’s post! Hope you have a blessed weekend!
