A Freshly Painted House + Found Friday Week 11

The house is PAINTED!

I don’t think I’ll ever forget the morning when I woke up to an early phone call from Elijah telling me that he may have found the house. After about a year’s worth of searching, the glimpse of hope I heard in his voice was different than the rest.

Ever since our first house tour that early morning in June, we’ve been dreaming about what a fresh coat of paint would add to this place.

Little did we know, we would be standing in front of our freshly painted house a few, quick months later.

The paint has by far been the biggest, most fun transition yet!

Last week, Elijah and his dad replaced the siding on the house. Several pieces were rotten, so they needed to be replaced before we could paint. The siding had been substantially delayed twice due to COVID. Thankfully, after a while, Elijah was able to come up with something else – fiber cement siding – so we could go ahead and get rolling!

Look at what they found as they peeled away the siding; the original 1922 white farmhouse siding. I melted when I first saw it. It made me that much happier that we chose to paint it white!

Thankfully, after doing everything else ourselves, we were able to hire out the painting! It would’ve literally taken us 3 weeks to get done the same amount of work as Jose and Nato got done in 2 days. They were awesome. Not gonna lie, we kinda miss not having them around as we work at the house now!

Monday morning they came out to clean the house & caulk everything.

That was also the day when we gave the painters all of the details on what we wanted, and I totally got cold feet when it came to telling them that we wanted to paint the back of the house black. I didn’t expect myself to waiver, but I TOTALLY did. I am SO glad we stayed true to the vision and went for it. I’ll be honest though, it made me ner-vous. I even showed Jose and Nato the inspiration pictures so they wouldn’t think I was too crazy. (They loved it.)

That day, I was the paint chauffeur and took one too many trips to the Hoover Paint Store. Elijah spent the day at the house re-framing a window and working on replacing some extra siding.

Tuesday morning, they arrived early with their paint sprayers and got to work! By 10:30AM they had the first white side of the house painted. I had no idea they would be so quick! Elijah & I had gone back to my house to work on some homework that morning, and then had to make another trip to the paint store. When we passed our house on the way, I remember freaking out as we looked in the review mirror to see the first side done!

We were ecstatic. It was one of those moments where we actually felt like our vision for our home was starting to come to life.

Throughout the day, I had to leave for a college Zoom class & various errands, but stopped by every chance I could. The painters probably thought we were crazy-we had family and friends stopping by all day to peek at it.

By noon, the front was finished. They were on track to finish that day.

Around 2 o’clock-right as they were getting to the back of the house – I had to leave for MTSU to go to my 3 hour class…which meant I wouldn’t be able to see the house until after dark. Talk about wanting to skip class!

In class, I got a picture from Elijah of the back of the house done! My heart jumped for joy as I saw the picture. I just couldn’t believe it was our house.

The next morning, I headed to the house to see it completely finished for the first time. It was like my own mini HGTV reveal. I loved it. I told Elijah, the only thing that I don’t like about it right now is that everyone passing by can’t see the entire vision yet. Since we don’t have our landscaping done yet, people just see the harsh white and black contrast with no added details. I’m tempted to put a sign out in the yard that says “Please don’t judge the black paint. Just you wait.”

On to the next steps of the house! It’s actually happening!

Found Friday Week 11

I am totally a sucker when it comes to vintage nature prints-especially when they are black and white. Not too long ago, I picked up an entire folder of old art prints at a yard sale!

I already saved out a turkey print for our house. (When Elijah & I first started hanging out in high school, he took me turkey hunting, so we had to keep one of those, ha!) I had to share the rest with you here! I adore the bunny print…

I also LOVE the way silver looks during the holidays. Each of these silver pieces look so pretty next to some fresh greenery.

As always, this week’s Found Friday collection is available in the Fernway Home Etsy shop! We lovingly refer to it as “Found items for an inspired home.”

If you’re local to Murfreesboro, use coupon code LOCAL for porch pickup. If you’re not local, shipping is available. Hope you enjoy!
