Top 10 House Updates + Found Friday Week 16

Happy weekend & happy new year! It’s been a little over a month since I posted here last, whoops! That doesn’t mean things haven’t been happening! I missed this space. Thank you for hopping back over here to see what’s been going on! It really means a lot. Sharing with you all is such a joy & I’m so excited to get back into the swing of things. Since quite a bit has been happening at our little “Fernway” house, I thought a brief “Top 10” would be a fun way to catch up!

1. Front Door Is Up!

It was high time for that solid white door to go! We finally got our new front door up! (You can read more about the sweet story behind our new door here. I still can’t open the door without smiling.)

For the icing on the cake, one of my mini dreams came true: I got to hang one of my very own Daisy Mae Belle wreaths on OUR door. My mom has an Etsy shop filled with her beautiful handmade wreaths and I’ve waited for the day to come when I could get one of my own. It’s truly the little things.

Now, we just need to add the trim around the door!

2. First Nights at the House

A few weeks back, Elijah had a group of his buddies over to spend the first night at the house. I received this picture of the living room floor covered in air mattresses & I couldn’t have loved it anymore. Of course, I couldn’t miss out on the air-mattress sleepover fun, so a few weeks later, one of my best friends joined me for my first night at the house.

3. Kitchen Lights Installed

I’ll be sharing a kitchen inspiration blog post soon. We have lots of ideas brewing…but we’re trying to continue to focus on the exterior before we start too many projects on the inside! However, we couldn’t resit from taking at least one step towards the vision, so replacing the lights rose to the top of the list. I am obsessed with schoolhouse lights, so I did a Google search and bought this fella for over the sink! It feels so 1920s and I love it. Elijah also replaced our other ceiling lights with recessed lights to give off more light and make them less noticeable.

4. Goodwill Light Fixture Score

We’ve been scoring quite a bit at Goodwill lately, but my mom gets credit for one of our favorite recent finds: our Target light fixture-still in the box! Plus, it’s from the Leanne Ford collection-a designer that I am totally obsessed with. It came with the bulb and all for $10.

When it’s turned on at night, you can see it through our big front window. I may just want to always leave it on…

5. National Championship Renovations

We had friends over to watch the SEC National Championship, and it ended up becoming a quick demo-night. We were explaining our ‘kitchen vision’ to our friends, and next thing ya know, Elijah and Warren are taking down the cabinets above the oven to make room for our future open shelving. Ha! It already feels better in there!

6. We Bought a Sectional!

A few weeks back, it felt like Elijah & I drove to every furniture store in Murfreesboro & Nashville. After lots of looking, we found just what we were looking for in a sectional at Bliss Home in Nashville. Because of COVID, it won’t be here ’til May, but that’s okay! Until then, we kind of like having an eclectic mix of 10 chairs in the living room to host company on.

7. Beadboard Discovery

During Christmas, we went to my grandparents house in Mississippi & HGTV’s Hometown show was on. Erin & Ben were showing beadboard walls they discovered on a house & were explaining the rarity of them. Whenever Elijah was installing the door, we discovered beadboard in the foyer & now we are all excited about it. We want to expose them all, but are a bit hesitant considering that once you smack a hole in the drywall, we gotta roll with whatever we find. I’m sure we will end up taking the risk and hoping for the best, ha!

8. My New Favorite Amazon Kitchen Gadget

Oh my word. You know when you find something so simple, yet amazing, and you feel the urge to tell everyone you know about your newfound discovery? Yeah, well that’s me with these magnetic spice tins. Since we don’t have a pantry, I’m having to get creative with storage. I was thinking about where I wanted to keep the spices, and thought it would be so convenient to attach them to the side of our fridge if possible? One Amazon search later, I found just what I was looking for. I mean, how fun?! Here’s the set I got!

9. TN Snow Day

We thought we had a “good” snow the other day, but THIS one was like a TN blizzard. AKA, the grass was pretty much covered. Elijah and I decided to take advantage of this rare opportunity and built snowmen waving to the road. Our Southern snowmen were 40% snow/60% leaves and mud.

10. Mattress Delivery!

This week we made our round to the mattress stores in town, and got our first mattress! It was delivered yesterday & it makes the house feel so much more real. It’s kinda bittersweet that we don’t have to bring air mattresses next time we have friends over to spend the night…

I clicked back to your late Sept. post for a memory-jogger view of the cabinets over the stove. I love those being removed! I’m a fan of kitchen storage, but love that wall breathing more. 🙂 And it takes a special relationship to furniture shop together – no easy task!

Aw, thank you so much Mrs.Lisa! I love kitchen storage too, so I’m going to try and figure out how to still store stuff in a prettier way in the open shelving…and haha yes! We had no idea how involved furniture shopping is!
