Need an easy & cost effective way to hang art prints or posters? A couple years ago, Daisy asked me to make her some wood hangers for her art prints & we came up with these wooden hanging frames! Turns out, they’ve been super popular & we’ve been making them ever since!
Wooden Art Print Hanger Supplies
- 1/2 in. Wooden Square Dowel
- Screw Eyes
- 1/4 in. Double-Sided Tape
- Jute Twine
- Miter Saw ( You can also use a circular saw or handsaw.)
- Drill
- 1/16 in. Drill Bit
- Tape Measure
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Stain (We use Minwax Early American.)
- Staining Cloth (We use old T-shirts.)
Wooden Art Print Hanger Steps
- First, take your wooden dowel and measure off the end 8.75 in. and make a mark. Then, cut the dowel on your mark.
2. Take your now cut dowel and measure 3/8 of an inch in on both sides and make a small mark.
3. Insert your 1/16 in. drill bit into your drill far enough so it can’t go completely through your dowel. ( See pictures for a visual.)
4. Place your drill bit on the mark you made at 3/8 of an inch from each side and drill a pilot hole. Be sure you’re drilling the holes in the center of the dowel.
5. Now dip your staining cloth into the stain and wipe your dowel on each side. Don’t forget the ends! Make sure to use strokes that go the entire length of the dowel so you don’t create streaks.
6. After your dowel dries for a couple of minutes, insert an eye screw into each pilot hole you previously drilled.
7. Take your twine and tie it to one of the eye screws. Next, measure out the length you want by eyeballing (see picture for visual). Once you’re satisfied with the length, cut the twine and tie it to the other eye screw.
8. Finally, take your double-sided tape and stick it to one side of the dowel & cut it to length.
9. Now go hang your favorite art print or poster & enjoy!
Note: You can change the look of the hanger by using different types of wood & lengths! Daisy & her sisters have asked me to make several different kinds of hangers!
