My baby girl is 9 months old now, which is such a fun age! She loves being read to, plays independently with her toys, and loves exploring her world more & more. Recently, she’s been enjoying picture books with photos of real people & our framed family photos around the house, so I knew it was time to create her a DIY Family Photo Book.
She loves looking at it. This DIY Family Photo Book is really perfect for any age. You can create it in advance as a pregnancy project, or even create it around the Kindergarten age with things you want your child to memorize, like your phone number and address. I love how it helps with facial recognition, spelling, & memorization. I was able to put mine together in under an hour. I’ve included how I created mine below + photos of her book. Hope you find it helpful!
DIY Family Photo Book
- Time to Create: Under an hour
- Age: Newborn to early elementary school
Tools
- Mini Photo Album with clear protecting sheets (I thrifted our 6×6 album with 10 protecting sheets, but I found this 8×8 similar gray gingham one.)
- 4×6 Family Photos (I printed mine at Walgreens, by ordering online & using their same-day pickup option. They almost always have a coupon code, so be sure to check before you pay full price. I printed 18 photos out for under $4.)
- Paper Cutter or Scissors
- Scrapbook Paper (This is a good neutral colored pack.)
- Pen
- Tape (Double sided would be ideal.)
How to Create the Family Photo Book
- Select the pictures of people and places you want in your baby’s photo book. You can include immediate family members, close friends, pets, your house, your church, their school, etc.
- Send them to print at your local drugstore. (I printed mine at Walgreens. See my notes above!)
- Cut your scrapbook paper to fit the pages in the album.
- Tape the photos onto the scrapbook paper, and write the names next to the pictures. (Mommy, Daddy, House, Church, etc.)
- Insert the pages into your album & enjoy reading with your baby!
It really is that easy! Our baby girl loves her book. We look through it almost daily.
